A Week in Substack Poetry 06/2025
Let's dive into 10 poem from Substack published in week 6 of 2025
Since joining Substack I noticed a serious need for networking and discovery in the poetry community. Writers and readers both asked themselves this:
How can people discover poetry on Substack?
How can poets find an audience on Substack?
This newsletter is a platform to help both sides. Consider subscribing to the authors whose words moved you. If you want more new poetry, subscribe to this free newsletter. In any case, I hope you will discover something new.
The Light in Your Brother’s Eye
A unique poem about how God is communicating his presence to us with excellent execution. Marie is new to Substack, so give her some ❤️’s!

This one is about Franco's fascination with survival, preferably after a plane crash. If I could, I would guess the freedom and thrill of the wildness are things we miss these days, so they start to look tempting.

The Scales
Lizzy out-squirreled me this week. This lively and inspiring poetry is a check-in with justice, and it would be an injustice for you not to check it out! I like how she records the poems; it further elevates her writing.

I long for nature, too, and you are right; its door is always open.

Self Portrait Poem in a Bottle (EtLL#3)
This is complex, dense, and wired fun, or as the author describes: "A meditation on the delicate art of watchmaking, magic mushrooms & love for one's mother."

The Day I Summoned an Owl
Superb writing, excellent photography, and an owl encounter are all put into one poem. It shows that poetry can be hidden everywhere. We just need to choose to see it in the world around us.

mask of strength
They say men don't cry, but they are also stupid. This is a collection of four poems about men's struggle with themselves and an environment that encourages them to be like this. I must say, they hit deep.

The Bold One
Desire, age, an intoxicating mix of longing, rebellion, and the bittersweet awareness that such moments, while beautiful, are often temporary. It needs a certain level of experience to write something like this, like this.

You left your mark
I’m cheating on this one, but I must share it. Dogs are something special in our lives. They are these helpless yet dangerous and witty creatures full of wild abandon.
You will spend 24/7 with them. At first, dogs don't want to be without you, and then you don’t want to be without them — and then they die and leave you alone even though they swore they never will.
Having a dog, is having a debt to the universe you have to pay back in pain and emptiness.

Thank you, and more

How poems are chosen
I researched a rather long list of poets from Substack and will choose five to ten of them at more or less random. I strive to produce a diverse set of authors and styles and deliberately try to choose works that are different from my tastes, too.
The only other qualifying measurement is that the poem must be published in the last seven days. It is a weekly roundup, after all!
This is it for the week!
All the best,
Tim.
So awesome! Love this!
This is so great! Can’t wait to read more
