Swimming Lessons - Monday Morning Poetry
Sometimes, the world unravels slightly, and we have to relearn how to swim again in a new situation. At the same time, everything around us just moves forward like normal.
Swimming Lessons
Whatever was said, With water in my ears, And chlorine in my eyes. My arms burn now and out of reach, Pikes circle under my feet, Dragonflies over my head. I’m caught in the middle of it all, Waterlilies dancing, And bulrush nodding. I need an island in my heart, That I can reach - Where I can rest.
Thoughts
We hope to reach a point where we’ve learned enough to face the challenges that lie ahead. However, we don’t truly learn our lessons until we see how they apply to us. And opportunities to learn, especially in a safe environment, don’t always prepare us for the realities of life.
When we are in trouble, the world around us seemingly moves on, unaffected by us and our struggles. This can make us feel like we are drowning in an indifferent, beautiful world that is still buzzing around us while we slow down and sink.
The solution is to find a compassionate place in our hearts—stable ground in our souls, an inner citadel—an island of tranquility amidst the turmoil around us. We need to know who we are, who we want to be, and where we are going.
When we have built a stable internal world, we can weather these storms and continue to move forward. Our inner strength and resilience will carry us through, no matter what the external world throws at us.
I hope you have a great start to an excellent week!
